Fall 2011 
      This is the eleventh year of the Boston School of Herbal Studies. We are very grateful to all those we have met over the past year and previous years and we look forward to meeting new friends in the coming year. 

We have an exciting program of classes this winter. In addition to such topics as The Alchemy of Soap Making, Healing Depression, Heart/Mind Integration, and Lyme Disease, we are introducing several new classes. 
     Cory Pine Shane, director of the Blue Ridge School of Herbal Medicine, will be offering a class on Enhancing Male Health and Vitality. Melanie Rose Flach will discuss Chakra Healing with Herbs and Pat Harpell will be doing an intensive on Reiki and Herbal Healing.

The Vital Man

     How can men remain vital and healthy at all ages? Taking a holistic approach to enhancing health and sexual vitality keeps us strong and on our game. We will focus on specific exercises, beneficial foods, and herbal tonics that nourish and support our whole body, since sexual vitality is a reflection of overall vitality. This is a fun class with a lot of practical advice for the modern lifestyle. It is valuable for women as well as men.
   
The Alchemy of Soap Making

     Come and learn the ancient art of soap making this fall. Watch the demonstration of kitchen chemistry reveal techniques for creating beautiful and successful soap. The workshop will cover the benefits of different ingredients (coconut oil, palm kernel, olive and shea butter), molds, recipes and tools. All participants will leave with a sample of soap made that day!
   
Heart / Mind Integration

Tommy will introduce an exciting new approach that assimilates powerful shamanic techniques with modern psychological understanding. Working within a shamanic framework, with the help of personally formulated flower essences, he helps guide people to reconnect with lost or alienated parts of themselves. The process empowers us to love and integrate these alienated aspects into our true soul/spirit essence. His work empowers people to experience extraordinary emotional and spiritual renewal.
   
Healing Depression with Herbs and Food

     Herbs can help reduce anxiety and stress, relieve depression and alleviate insomnia, without the side effects often associated with medication. You will find out about herbal sedatives, mood elevators and tonics and how to use them to feel more vital and resilient. We will also discuss the strengths and limitations of a biochemical model of depression. You will leave the class with information about herbal protocols to soothe and nourish the nervous system and enhance well being.
   
Chakra Healing with Herbs

       Experience a powerful new way to heal emotionally, physically, and spiritually with chakra balancing, medicinal plants and flower essences. Participants will learn how to perceive the different chakras and, if needed, bring them back into alignment. You will also learn which herbs and flower essences correspond with each chakra. This class will provide you with the tools to do chakra work on yourself and to connect with the deeper spiritual energies of the plants.
   
 Lyme Disease; Hope for a Silent Epidemic

       Lyme disease , which has become common in the Northeast, causes much suffering and is often not well addressed by conventional medicine. In this seminar, we will discuss the various symptoms of Lyme and how to diminish them substantially. There will be an extensive discussion of herbal protocols and life style changes to improve health, strengthen immunity and enhance vitality.
   
Natural Skin Care

      How many of us are challenged by blemishes or skin lesions that stubbornly persist despite our best efforts to clear them. Some prescription and almost all over-the-counter medications are filled with chemicals that can actually exacerbate the problem. 
This workshop provides effective strategies for healing acne at any age. Since our skin reflects the health of deeper organs, we will focus on both internal and external healing. You will experience how to make herbal creams and learn about herbal formulas for your type of skin issue. Everyone will receive samples of products made during the class.
   
Reiki and Herbal Healing 
Saturday and Sunday, March 26,27, 10:00-5:00pm $250

    This intensive instructs students on the art and science of Reiki in combination with the healing energy of plants. Students will receive Reiki one and Reiki two attunements and will learn how to transmit herbal healing energy to themselves, each other and to those at a distance. At the end of this class, students will be certified as Reiki two practitioners. No previous Reiki experience is needed. Those practicing Reiki can receive attunements to further enhance their channeling capabilities. Students will learn how to:
Give a Reiki treatment in person and at a distance.
Scan a client for dis-ease.
Send herbal healing to a distant client.
Enhance communication with plants through Reiki.
Test and increase potency of herbs with Reiki.
           Sense where Reiki and herbal energies are flowing in the body (with the clients who are near and at a distance).

    Shamanic Plant Journeying 
Tuesdays, September 13, October 11, November 8, December 13

Experience how the physical and spiritual energies of a plant affect all levels of being. Participants meet the physical plant, experience the tincture and open to the energies of the flower essence. Through drumming and guided meditation, we make contact with plant wisdom for our own personal healing and the healing of the earth. This is a workshop for beginning and intermediate herbalists as well for those who want to learn more about shamanic journeying.
